She has dedicated most of her time to community service projects, participating in two Alternative Break Volunteer Programs and mentoring high school students through initiatives such as TIRP (Teaching International Relations Program), College Access Day, and Personal Statement Weekend. On-campus, Makela maintained several leadership positions that significantly strengthened her communication and organization skills. This position gave her the opportunity to utilize her creativity, build community, and ensure that inclusivity remained one of the core values of university spaces. Using her experiences as a guide, Makela's long term goal is to commit to a career in community development; implementing new ways to serve her communities and inspiring change through social innovation.
